Tamil Nadu plans to set up a solar power park along with battery storage across the state.
On Tuesday, the state government announced plans for solar parks with a total capacity of 4 GW along with 2 GW of storage across the state. These projects are to be set up in areas excluding corporations and municipalities.
Also, the government intends to install smart meters, which would enable easier monitoring of electricity consumption. It will also facilitate payments via prepaid or postpaid plans at zero error assessment. Similarly, distribution transformers will receive smart meters for 1,270 crore.
According to V Senthil Balaji, the minister of electricity, 11 pumped storage hydropower projects will be established across a number districts with the aim of boosting their capacity by 7,500 MW.
Additionally, the government will also re-examine the expansion projects II and III at Udangudi.
Tangedco has already requested the government to relocate the Uppur thermal power plant to Udangudi. According to the minister, the idea of building the Uppur thermal plant in Uppur itself will be re-examined.
The state is also planning a total of 900 feeders installation across the state that would be at a cost of INR 5,050 crore, while transformers will be installed at a cost of INR 679 crore.
