Solar-based water supply projects have been set up in the villages of Jagrawan-Muradpur and Talwara in the Jalandhar district of Punjab to provide potable water supply to these villages by the Punjab Water Supply and Sanitation Department.
This is the first of its kind solar-based water supply project that has been set under the “Har Ghar Paani, Har Ghar Safai” mission in the Jalandhar district of Punjab.
The project encompasses the installation of 150-meter deep tube-wells along with 25,000-liter capacity water tanks that have been set-up to provide every household with piped water supply in these villages. These solar-based water supply pilot projects were installed at a cost of INR 67.71 lakh.
The pilot project has helped these village panchayats with zero electricity bills for the water supply projects. As the panchayats in these villages are not paying any electricity bills for the water supply projects now, the same amount is being used for the other development works of the villages, informed the spokesperson.
Expressing gratitude to Chief Minister Amarinder Singh for the solar-based water supply project, Harjit Kaur, sarpanch of Jagrawan village, stated that the panchayat and the residents of the village are deeply relieved after the electricity bills were reduced to zero.
Likewise, every household in Talwara and Muradpur villages has also got access to the supply of clean water with the start of the projects.
In total, 141 households in Jagrawan and Muradpur along with 102 households in Talwara village have benefited from the commissioning of these solar-based water supply projects.
