PM Modi emphasizes on increasing operational efficiency, stressed on making power equipment’s in India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the review meeting on Power Sector – stressed on the need of increasing the operational efficiency of the power sector – for greater consumer satisfaction as well as improving the sector’s financial stability.
Modi, while reviewing the work of the Ministry of Power and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy on Wednesday evening, pointed out that the problems in the power sector, especially in the power distribution segment, differ among regions and states.
According to an official statement released on Thursday, ‘Instead of looking for all solutions, the ministry should focus on implementing state-specific solutions to improve its performance for each state.’
In order to fix problems related to the power sector, policy proposals like the revised tariff structure as well as the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2020 were also debated during the review process. The Prime Minister stressed on the importance of increasing consumer satisfaction while enhancing operational efficiency and the financial stability of the power sector.
Modi advised the Ministry of Power to ensure that discoms (distribution companies) publish their performance parameters from time to time so that people know how their providers differ from others. He also stressed that equipment used in the power sector should be made in India.
He stressed on working on innovative models of rooftop solar power. He said that every state should have at least one city (capital city or any famous tourist destination) that is fully solar powered by producing solar energy on the rooftop.
Modi also felt that the carbon neutral scheme of Ladakh should be expedited. As per the statement released, the Prime Minister also discussed on drinking water supply in coastal areas using solar and wind energy.
