L&T, IIT Bombay collaborate on green hydrogen technology
L&T signs a pact with the most prestigious technology college in India – IIT Bombay – for research and development related to green hydrogen technology.
An agreement was reached on Tuesday between L&T and IIT Bombay to work towards research and development of green hydrogen technology. Using renewable energy for electrolysis to produce hydrogen that has no carbon footprints is called “green hydrogen”.
The company statement stated that L&T has entered into an agreement with the nation’s premier research institute, IIT Bombay, to jointly pursue research and development work in the arena of green hydrogen value chain.
Both the organizations have joined forces to carry out research on green hydrogen and create a new technology, in order to help the hydrogen manufacturing industry in India.
“L&T’s engineering expertise, product size-up and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay’s pioneering research in hydrogen generation technologies will help this joint venture achieve its goal,” the statement noted.
S N Subrahmanyan, CEO and MD of L&T commented that L&T’s strategic partnership with IIT Bombay and its global leading technologists will be valuable in building a globally competitive technology foundation and pushing India closer to reliance on green hydrogen technologies.
Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director at IIT Bombay, acknowledges his country’s role in the battle against global climate change and is confident that green hydrogen production in India will meet those targets and provide a feasible way to offset emissions by making a transition from carbon fuels to renewable energy power.
He further added, India’s national hydrogen mission is a good idea in the right direction, and we have confidence in working with a partner like Larsen & Toubro to create scalable, cost-effect solutions.
