Haryana to provide 75 per cent subsidy on solar pumps

The department of new and renewable energy in Haryana has decided to provide a 75% subsidy on the purchase of 3-10 horse power (HP) solar pumps for farmers’ irrigation needs

As a support to the irrigation needs of the farmers, Haryana’s department of new and renewable energy has decided to provide farmers with a 75% subsidy for solar pumps with rated capacities of 3 to 10 horse power (HP). Applications are being accepted until December 27 from eligible beneficiaries.

Additional deputy commissioner of Gurgaon, Vishram Kumar Meena, announced that some 8,629 solar-powered pumps would be provided to farmers in Haryana state at a 75% subsidy.

He, however noted that the pumps will only be given to farmers who practice micro irrigation like drip or sprinkler irrigation and irrigate their fields through underground pipelines.

Meena further stated that this subsidy program covers three solar pump categories – 3 HP, 7.5 HP, and 10 HP. The application from the farmers to avail 75% subsidy on these categories of solar pumps shall be accepted until December 27.

In order to avail the benefits, the farmers need to fill out a form, choose a solar pump of their choice, and pay their share of the cost, using an online portal. After receiving and accepting the form, the department would be distributing these pumps to beneficiaries in about three months’ time.

According to Meena, the adoption of solar pumps will help pave the way for the shift to more sustainable sources of energy while also supporting farmers to meet their irrigation needs.
