Gujarat’s first wind-solar hybrid project commissioned by ReNew Power
The 17.6 MW captive wind and solar hybrid project will generate about 80 million units of renewable energy per annum mitigating 75,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
On Tuesday, ReNew Power announced the commissioning of Gujarat’s first wind-solar hybrid project at Grasim Industries’ Chlor-Alkali plant in Bharuch.
As reported in the official press release, the first phase of the hybrid project, featuring 17.6 MW of commercial-scale wind and solar, began operations last week.
The projected generation from the project will be about 80 million units of renewable energy per year that would mitigate about 75,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, the release noted.
According to the release, as part of the second phase, the partnership will add another 16.68 MW that is planned to be commissioned in the next financial year.
ReNew Green Solutions, ReNew Power’s B2B arm, is developing the project. Through an open access mechanism, the project will supply power to the plant at Vilayat, Bharuch, under a 25-year PPA between the two parties.
With a combined capacity of 34.28 MW, once both phases are fully operational, the partnership will be able to generate 160 million units of renewable electricity annually, mitigating 150,000 tonnes of carbon emissions. Both phases together have a total investment of about USD 51 million through an equity partnership, according to the firm.
The corporate sector has a crucial role to play in the large scale adoption of renewable energy in India as it strives to attain net-zero energy by 2070.
“Considering corporations’ recent inclination towards renewable energy, ReNew Power plans to develop about 250 MW of wind-solar hybrid projects in Gujarat for commercial and industrial consumers similar to what ReNew did at Vilayat, Bharuch,” commented Mayank Bansal, chief commercial officer, ReNew Power.
