Green Hydrogen: Hero Future Energies partners with Ohmium for 1000 MW of Green Hydrogen

Combining Ohmium’s hydrogen expertise with Hero Future Energies’ expertise as a developer of renewable energy, we hope to meet and perhaps even surpass our ambitious target of 1000 MW, says Srivatsan Iyer, Global CEO, Hero Future Energies

India’s Hero Future Energies (HFE) and the US-headquartered Ohmium International have announced a strategic partnership to develop and build 1000MW of green hydrogen plants in India, the UK and Europe.

Hero Future Energy (HFE) is a leading developer of Solar, Wind, and Hybrid/BESS projects, while Ohmium International specializes in the design, manufacturing, and deployment of PEM electrolysers.

Ohmium will be responsible for the design, construction, and operation and maintenance of the hydrogen production facilities under the partnership. In the Build – Operate – Own partnership, Hero Future Energies will generate green energy for the production facilities and will assume the overall ownership of the assets.

While speaking on this partnership, Srivatsan Iyer, Global CEO, Hero Future Energies commented, “We are very pleased to be partnering with Ohmium – their patented electrolyser technology helps them build hydrogen production facilities fast and more efficiently. Combining Ohmium’s hydrogen expertise with HFE’s expertise as a developer of renewable energy, we hope to meet and perhaps even surpass our ambitious target of 1000 MW”.

Arne Ballantine, CEO, Ohmium International stated: “This giga-scale effort between Hero Future Energies and Ohmium, will help advance the landscape for the global green hydrogen market. Hero Future Energies being a leader and innovator in renewable energy has a track record of success. Together, we will enable safe, secure and cost-effective green hydrogen energy production not only in India but throughout the world.”

Among other things, hydrogen is used in steel and chemical production, fertilizer production, refineries, and many other processes. The majority of hydrogen is produced from fossil fuels, which makes it a major carbon pollutant. With the latest reduction in renewable energy costs and Ohmium’s technology solutions, it is now possible to produce cost effective green hydrogen.

Srivatsan Iyer, Global CEO, Hero Future Energies added: “We believe that this partnership will take the Green Hydrogen Ecosystem to the next level. When countries and businesses strive to reach their net zero goals, Green Hydrogen  presents a significant opportunity, particularly in sectors like mobility that are hard to decarbonize. HFE’s vision as a provider of integrated energy transition solutions is perfectly aligned with this forward-looking partnership. The partnership will allow us to expand our international footprint as we enter new markets.”

In order to reach Net-Zero emission targets, it becomes imperative that the world switches to green hydrogen. The National Hydrogen Mission of India capitalizes on this trend to establish India as a global leader in the large-scale production and export of Green Hydrogen. The demand for hydrogen in India is expected to increase five-fold by 2050, reaching nearly 28 MTPA.
