Wind energy capacity addition of 1,500-1,600 MW is expected in 2022-23: IWTMA
IWTMA expects wind energy capacity addition to be about 1,500-1,600 MW during 2022-23, and to be about 2,000-2,500 MW the next year.
A top wind turbine industry body official said on Thursday that they expect wind energy capacity addition to be about 1,500-1,600 MW during 2022-23, and they expect it to be about 2,000-2,500 MW the next year.
According to Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) Chairman Tulsi Tanti, last fiscal the total wind power capacity that was added in the country was about 883 MW.
The problem is that the amount of new capacity being added is very low compared to the industry’s annual capacity of manufacturing 10,000 MW of turbines, he explained.
Tanti argues that the centralised bidding for wind power projects by the Solar Energy Corporation of India has taken small investors out of the market, and that the opportunity to increase green energy generation was lost during the past several years.
The states also need to start bidding out for projects to increase wind energy generation, he added further.
The total capacity that was tendered out by SECI in different rounds was about 16,300 MW. Out of the total awarded projects of 12,470 MW, only about 3,200 MW was commissioned, and several projects were surrendered by the bidders.
Tanti stated that state governments can tender out wind energy projects and also come out with industry-friendly policies for captive power and the transmission of power between states.
He also urged the government to bring back the feed in tariff for small wind energy projects, which would allow more people to benefit from renewable energy.
Meanwhile, the fourth edition of ‘Windergy India 2022’ will be held in Delhi from April 27 to 29. The IWTMA states that Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy R.K. Singh, along with other dignitaries and industry officials, will be part of the conference that runs along with the trade fair.
