Wärtsilä bags a 30MW Power Plant contract from Oil India Ltd

Wärtsilä, bags a contract to provide a 30 MW power plant to Oil India Ltd for its facility at Duliajan in Assam that will cater as the primary source of energy for the entire load.

Wärtsilä, a technology company, has won a contract to provide a 30 MW power plant to OIL INDIA LIMITED (OIL), a leading Indian national oil company, encompassing the full engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract.

This project was won by Wärtsilä through an international competitive bidding process (ICB). The IC Engine solution’s significantly higher open cycle efficiency and lower emission levels were a factor in the final selection. On the 11th of January 2021, OIL gave LoA to Wärtsilä after following the entire ICB process.

On April 21, 2021, the new Wärtsilä engine power plant in Duliajan, Assam, northeast India, was officially inaugurated. When fully operational, the plant will provide one of the primary sources of power for OIL’s Duliajan complex, which is not connected to the grid. It provides electricity to an LPG bottling facility, a gas gathering station, the entire OIL Township, and other important loads. The power plant is scheduled for commissioning in November 2022.

Three Wärtsilä W20V34SG gas engines will power the facility, which will run on natural gas from OIL’s captive gas reserves. Because the quality of the gas supply from these fields can vary, Wärtsilä will instal a continuous gas analyser system that will automatically tune the engines based on the quality of the fuel. A multi-year Wärtsilä maintenance agreement will ensure operational reliability and plant availability.

Speaking about this Henri van Boxtel, Energy Business Director, South Asia, Wärtsilä said “This plant will form the backbone of Oil India’s power supply to the surrounding area/facilities and Township.  The Wärtsilä solution, backed with our long-term maintenance agreement, will enable extremely high plant availability to deliver a thoroughly reliable electricity supply.”

Wärtsilä has made significant contributions to India’s power sector since the early 1980s. For the Indian Marine and Energy sector, Wärtsilä has 35 years of experience offering comprehensive lifecycle power solutions. Wärtsilä employs around 500 people in India and has delivered more than 250 power plants with a total capacity of over 3500 MW.

Wärtsilä has a long history of providing solutions to the marine industry, including the Navy, Coast Guard, Port Trusts, Merchant Shipping, floating cranes, and offshore rigs.
