Vikram Solar officially opens its 1.3 GW module facility in Tamil Nadu

Through the addition of the 1.3 GW manufacturing plant, Vikram Solar currently becomes the largest module manufacturer in India with a total capacity of 2.5 GW.


Vikram Solar, a company based in Kolkata that manufactures solar photovoltaic (PV) modules, announced the inauguration of its new PV module manufacturing unit in Tamil nadu. Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Shri M.K. Stalin, inaugurated the new manufacturing facility. 

This manufacturing unit has the capacity of producing 1.3 gigawatts (GW) solar photovoltaic (PV) modules and is located at Indospace Industrial Park in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu. By leveraging state-of-the-art machines and digitizing manufacturing processes that reshape the global manufacturing landscape, Vikram Solar surely gains an edge over competitors. 

Vikram Solar has an existing 1.2GW manufacturing facility in Falta, West Bengal. By adding this unit, the company has increased its module production capacity to 2.5 GW, currently the largest capacity in India.

Gyanesh Chaudhary, Managing Director, Vikram Solar stated that the exponential surge in demand for solar energy coupled with the urge to diversify trade and supply chains presents a huge opportunity for indigenous solar manufacturing.

The new facility would bridge the demand-supply gap for modules, propel innovation, and create about 1,000 jobs, he added.

In addition, this would serve as a platform for next-generation module technology research and development, the company said.

The company added that, among other such emerging technologies, it has implemented digital production display boards, the Internet of Things, and AI-enabled inspection for zero defects.
