The Centre approves three solar parks in Odisha

Union new and renewable energy minister R K Singh said on Tuesday that the Centre has approved three solar parks in Odisha with a cumulative capacity of 340MW.

According to Union new and renewable energy minister R K Singh, three solar parks with a cumulative capacity of 340MW have been approved for Odisha under the solar park scheme.

Singh responded to a written query by BJD MP Sujeet Kumar in the Rajya Sabha by stating that a 40-MW solar park is planned for Landeihill village in Ganjam district. There will also be two floating parks. The first with a 200 MW capacity has been planned for the Rengali reservoir, whereas the details about the other with a 100 MW capacity are unknown. There is, however, a new water body planned for the park.

NHPC Ltd has already acquired 176 acres for Landeihill village park and finalized the EPC contractor for the implementation of the project.

NHPC invited bids in August 2020 in order to choose the contractor that would handle all aspects of the project. The scope of work includes design, engineering, procurement, manufacturing, quality assurance, testing, insurance, delivery, installation and commissioning.

To implement the power plants, the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency is the state government’s nodal agency. The state produces 430 MW of solar power from various sources at present.

In addition, the Union minister said a 10-MW solar power project has been approved as part of the project to solarise Konark temple and town in Tentulipada village of Kalahandi district. Konark town and the sun temple will be solarised as part of the state’s plan to become India’s first zero-emission city by the end of the year.

The Government of Odisha had unveiled the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy in 2016 with the aim of promoting the use and production of renewable energy in the state. The policy offered a wide range of incentives to those who are planning to implement renewable energy production units in the state.
