The  2nd unit of 1320 MW Buxar TPP  was virtually inaugurated by CDM, SJVN

Speaking on the occasion, CDM, SJVN Shri Nand Lal Sharma urged all to work hard towards commissioning of the plant prior to its scheduled date.


In a virtual groundbreaking ceremony, Shree Nand Lal Sharma, Chairman & Managing Director of SJVN inaugurated the Second Unit of (2 x 660) 1320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Plant. SJVN Director (Electrical), Shree Sushil Kumar Sharma and CEO of SJVN Thermal Pvt Ltd (STPL), Shree Sanjeev Sood were present on this occasion at the project site along with other senior officials.

In an address at the occasion, Shree Sharma said that the progress of the Project is monitored regularly by the Hon’ble Union Minister for Power & NRE, Shree R. K Singh. According to him, the project consists of two units, and more than 50 percent of the works related to Unit 1 have been completed already. He encouraged all stakeholders to enthusiastically work hard so that the Project could be commissioned prior to its scheduled completion date.

In his remarks, he stressed the importance of contributing to “24X7 Power for All” set by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. He urged all involved with the power plant activities to work together so as to commission the first unit of the plant by June 2023, and the second unit by January 2024.

The honourable Prime Minister of India, Shree Narendra Modi, laid the Foundation Stone of 1320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Plant on 9th March 2019. SJVN Thermal Pvt Ltd (a 100% subsidiary of SJVN Limited) is developing the 1320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Plant with Ultra Super Critical Technology. The project involves an investment of approximately Rs 11,000 crore. The plant is expected to generate 9828 million units of electricity once it is commissioned. 

As of now, SJVN has a capacity of 2016.51 MW and a portfolio of more than 11000 MW. By 2023, the company plans to generate 5000 MW, followed by 12000 MW in 2030, and 25000 MW by 2040. The company is present in several sectors of energy generation including hydro, wind, solar and thermal. The company is also active in energy transmission.
