Rajasthan plans to allocate cheaper land to promote e-vehicles

Government land will be given at a concessionary rate by the urban development and housing (UDH) to promote electric vehicles in the state of Rajasthan.

In line with the order dated September 28, land will be allotted to the first 500 renewable energy EV charging stations at 50% concession that will be installed within the first five years.

Applicants whose applications reach the local bodies of the district concerned through Renewable Energy Corporation will be given the land at concessional rates, according to available information. Subsequently, a proposal for allotment of land will be prepared by these urban bodies and submitted to the state government.

At the budget speech, chief minister Ashok Gehlot announced the Rajasthan Solar Energy Policy 2019 and the Rajasthan Wind and Hybrid Energy Policy 2019. Under these policies, concessional rates are provided for the allotment of land.

The state is planning to develop two types of charging stations-fast and slow. It takes 60 minutes for vehicles to be charged at the fast-charging stations, and six hours for the slow charging stations.

As per the calculation, a minimum of 800 square feet of land is needed for slow charging stations within urban limits, where at least 10 vehicles can be charged at the same time. Likewise, fast-charging stations require 460 square feet of land to set up and can have a charging capacity of six cars. A total of 75 locations were identified by the civic body for the same.

Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has also invited expressions of interest (EOI) from private companies for installing, operating, and maintaining charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) in the city. The companies have been requested to submit Expressions of Interest by October 28.

In this regard, JDA organized a pre-bid meeting to learn more about the investors’ questions. During the meeting, the companies discussed several topics including procurement of electricity, time for lease, revenue share model, and others. JDA will prepare the document for tenders based on the queries.

It has been estimated that 15,000 electric vehicles are available in the city. Within a few years, EV charging stations will be as prevalent as petrol pumps in the city.
