PM Modi stated in his inaugural remarks at the 21st World Sustainable Development Summit 2022 (WSDS-22) that climate justice is the key to achieving environmental sustainability.
PM Narendra Modi said India’s energy needs will double over the next 20 years, urging developed countries to fulfill their commitments on finance and technology transfer.
Modi stated in his inaugural remarks at the 21st World Sustainable Development Summit 2022 (WSDS-22) that climate justice is the key to achieving environmental sustainability.
“In order to achieve environmental sustainability, climate justice must be implemented. India’s energy requirements are expected to double in the next 20 years. Denying this energy would be like denying life to millions. Appropriate financing is also necessary for climate action to succeed. In order to do so, developed countries must fulfill their commitments concerning finance and technology transfer,” the prime minister stated.
According to him, India takes seriously its commitment under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
“We are committed to fulfilling all our UNFCCC commitments. We have also increased our ambitions during CoP-26,” Modi said.
“It is our duty to protect this ecosystem,” the PM said, referring to India as a megadiverse country that accounts for eight percent of the world’s species.”The annual flagship summit of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), WSDS 2022, is on the theme of ‘Towards a Resilient Planet: Ensuring a Sustainable and Equitable Future’. Over 100 countries have participated in the WSDS 2022, a three-day summit which will conclude on Feb 18.
