Odisha Government has asked OREDA to promote solar power in the state
At a virtual review meeting, the Odisha state chief secretary directed OREDA officials to prepare a plan for promotional activities of solar power in the state.
The Odisha state government has directed its renewable energy development agency to provide for cost-effective incentives schemes to promote solar power for domestic use in the state.
Chief Secretary SC Mohapatra has also directed the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency to explore ways of encouraging green power for private use in the state, it said.
At a virtual review meeting, the chief secretary directed officials to prepare a plan for promotional activities to popularise the use of solar-based agricultural equipment, water heater, lights, and green-powered machines.
A statement on Saturday stated that the meeting also addressed new solar technologies for cold storage, drinking water, millet processing, sewing, and rope-making.
According to OREDA Chief Executive Officer Dhananjaya Swain, the agency has installed more than 4 lakh renewable energy systems since July and has been able to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 30 tonnes per year.
Moreover, a total of 1,163 solar rooftop projects with a total capacity of 12.3 megawatts and 2.44 lakh biogas projects were also developed by the OREDA.
He further informed that OREDA has also implemented 13,219 solar-powered drinking water projects and distributed 1,687 irrigation pumps and 82,033 green lanterns.
