KSEB eases procedures for rooftop solar power installation

To simplify the procedure for setting up grid-connected rooftop solar power systems, KSEB is creating a single point of contact at the corporate level.

For consumers interested in installing grid-connected rooftop solar power generators, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has decided to establish a single point of contact at the corporate office level to facilitate the process.

The Board would also establish a user-friendly web portal for solar rooftops applications which would be convenient and transparent so that the applicants can easily monitor the status of their requests.

As stipulated in the Electricity (Rights of Consumers) Rules 2020, the single point of contact will be the single point of contact for all consumers. In order to ensure hassle-free implementation of the rules, which came into effect on December 31, 2020, KSEB has created various mechanisms.

A single point of contact for solar installation on rooftops is one of the first consumer-friendly initiatives being implemented by the electricity board.

By having one point of contact, consumers don’t have to visit different sections or offices if they decide to install rooftop solar systems. From application submission to commissioning, all services can be obtained through one point of contact.

The licensee (KSEB) is required to make its single point contact information prominently displayed on its website, as per the rule.

An officer no lower than the rank of an executive engineer in the office of the chief engineer (renewable energy and energy savings) is appointed as the corporate-level single point of contact for grid-connected solar installations.

An order issued by the KSEB in this regard stated that the official acting as the single point of contact must be familiar with all laws, rules, and procedures related to solar installations and services.

For the installation of grid-connected solar power plants, the board received good feedback from the consumers.
