Japanese bank to fund West Bengal’s 1000 MW Turga pumped storage project
West Bengal’s power distribution company for its proposed 1000 mw Turga pumped storage power project has executed a loan agreement with Japan International Cooperation Agency to fund INR 5,000 crore. The total project cost has been estimated at INR 6922 crore.
The pumped storage power project will come up in the state’s Purulia district at Ayodhya hills. The state cabinet has already endorsed four reversible pump turbine units of 250 mw, each.
In the past, the State considered the potential for the installation of 1200 mw solar power plants for the power supply to the pumped power plant, of 1000 mw.
However, setting up solar generation facility is likely to cost another INR 5000 crore. The state looked previously on to fund portion of the project with the help of the Centre.
