India’s first green hydrogen electrolyzer giga-factory launched by Ohmium
The giga-factory will have an initial manufacturing capacity of about 500 MW per year with scaleability of up to 2GW per year.
India’s first green hydrogen electrolyzer giga-factory has been launched at Bengaluru by Ohmium International, a US-based renewable energy start-up. The announcement was made by the company on Tuesday, through its Indian subsidiary about the launch.
The gigafactory will produce Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) hydrogen electrolyzers with an initial production capacity of 500 MW per year, and will then scale up to 2 GW per year.
The company press release describes the PEM hydrogen electrolyzer as one of the main parts of making green hydrogen, as it breaks water into hydrogen and oxygen using power generated from renewable sources.
“We offer modular products that are high performing and have a high value. In this way, they can be used to maintain Levelized hydrogen costs that will support the development of India’s economy,” said Arne Ballantine, CEO, and co-founder of Ohmium.
The company has developed technology that can be distributed as well as scalable.
“We are deeply committed to India’s vision… We want India to become a major export hub for green fuel by boosting the production of green hydrogen in India,” said Pashupathy Gopalan, an investor in Ohmium.
In addition to ensuring the availability of an end-to-end solution in the country, the company said it will also reduce reliance on imports for this core equipment.
