The Himachal Pradesh government is seeking bids from the private sector developers for running the 27 hydro power projects on a “build, own, operate, and transfer” (BOOT) basis.

Detailed project reports for seven projects are complete, while preliminary feasibility reports for the rest are available.

The state government plans to allocate these 27 hydroelectric projects with a cumulative capacity of around 722.4 MW, across six districts of the state.

Of these 27 hydro power projects, 9 are in Chamba district, 7 are in Kennur district, 5 are in Kullu district, 2 are on the Chamba-Kangra border, and one each is in Kangra, Lahul Spiti and Shimla, along with the Lahul Spiti and Chamba border.

The developers will be required to pay the government a royalty in the form of free power from the projects. This royalty will help finance the government’s expenses involved in the projects.

Once the developers have met their royalty obligations and additional free power through the local area development fund, they will be in a position to dispose of the remaining power.
