Godrej & Boyce bags 400kV GIS-Substation project in Mumbai

Godrej & Boyce secured a prestigious 400kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Substation project in Mumbai worth over INR 100 crore. The order has strengthened its role as an EPC player to both public and private utilities.

Godrej & Boyce, the Godrej Group’s flagship company, announced today that its Power Infrastructure and Renewable Energy (PIRE) arm under Godrej Electrical & Electronics business division has won an order for one of Mumbai’s most prestigious power transmission projects.

The order has been awarded for the construction of a new greenfield 400kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Substation in Vikhroli, along with a 400kV extension bay in Kharghar. The project is estimated to cost over INR 100 crores.

By securing this order, G&B has expanded its portfolio to include large private utilities in the EHV substation projects, enhancing its role as an EPC supplier to both public and private utilities.

Mumbai will get its first 400 kV substation facility as part of the project. For Mumbai, this is an important project due to the fact that the existing transmission capacity isn’t enough to further transmit power to the city that never sleeps.

A project like this would enable the city of Mumbai to obtain more electricity and facilitate meeting its future demands. In total, the project will add 1500MVA to the city’s transformation capacity.

Raghavendra Mirji, Senior Vice President & Head – Power Infrastructure & Renewable Energy (PIRE), Godrej Electricals & Electronics said, “Godrej & Boyce has always been committed to providing critical infrastructure to power the nation in its progress. Our foray into the Power Transmission business began in 2010 and since then we have built and commissioned 30+ EHV substation projects and more than 300 kilometers of transmission lines up to 400kV. By FY23, Godrej’s Electricals & Electronics PIRE aims to grow to more than INR 1000 crores in the domestic T&D sector and capture 25 % market share in the addressable market.”

Commenting on the order, he added, “This landmark order from one of the country’s largest power transmission companies is proof of their trust in our engineering expertise. We hope to build on this newly forged relationship and contribute toward the larger goal of powering not just Mumbai, but other cities across the country.”

Godrej & Boyce is one of the pioneers in manufacturing and delivering energy management equipment, solutions and services across the entire value chain. A division of Godrej & Boyce, Godrej Electricals & Electronics has completed several EHV substation projects and has installed transmission lines over 400 kV in all of India.

Godrej Electrical & Electronics has established itself as one of India’s most reputable EPC companies in the Power Transmission and Distribution segment over the years. Additionally, the company intends to make India more sustainable by expanding to megawatt-scale solar projects.
