Global solar power sector witnessed record corporate funding of $27.8 bn in 2021

Compared to USD 14.5 billion in 2020, worldwide corporate financing in the solar sector increased to USD 27.8 billion in January-December 2021.


Global solar sector funding reached USD 27.8 billion in 2021, the highest level in the past decade, according to Mercom Capital Group. 

In its latest report, the Mercom Capital reports the worldwide corporate solar funding increased to USD 27.8 billion in January-December 2021 from USD 14.5 billion in 2020. In 2021, corporate funding in the solar sector reached its highest level in ten years.

Solar corporate funding along with the mergers and acquisitions improved to their highest level since 2010, according to Raj Prabhu of Mercom Capital Group. He further pointed out that in the aftermath of COVID-19-related disruptions in 2020, financing activity rebounded strongly.

As organizations and funds seek to fulfill their ESG and clean energy mandates, there is more money than ever chasing deals. There is also more demand than supply for attractive companies and assets, according to him.

Corporate funding consists of venture capital and private equity (VC), debt finance, and public market financing.
