By 2027, NTPC targets 35 GW of renewable energy capacity
State-owned power company NTPC has targeted to have total renewable energy capacity of 35 gigawatts by 2027. The company also expects to generate 10 billion units (BU) of green energy in the next financial year 2022-23.
As informed by the Union Power Minister R K Singh in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, “NTPC is expected to generate 10 billion units of green energy in the next fiscal year (2022-23). By 2027, NTPC plans to achieve 35 GW of renewable energy (RE) capacity.”
R K Singh stated that NTPC has also entered the arena of green energy generation in addition to managing 70 power plants. The company has a renewable energy capacity of 2,095.5 megawatts (MW), including solar, wind, and hydro. While, its RE generation for the period April-November stood at 4,089.64 million units.
As stated by the minister further, NTPC is currently developing 3,880.5 MW of green energy capacity which includes solar power, wind power, and hydropower. He did, however, inform the House that construction on the Lata Tapovan hydropower project (171 MW) has ceased since May 8, 2014, following the Supreme Court order dated May 7, 2014.
According to the company website. The company has an installed capacity of 67,907.5 MW (including JVs) with 24 coal and 7 gas based stations, 1 hydro, 1 wind, 13 solar and 1 small hydro plant. In its joint ventures, NTPC has 9 coal-fired, 4 gas-fired, and 13 renewable energy projects. NTPC plans to have almost 30% of the company’s generation capacity from non-fossil fuels by 2032.
