BHEL installed a solar EV charging station at Karnal

BHEL has set up an EV charging station on the Delhi-Chandigarh highway to provide charging to all makes of electric cars available in India.

With the setup of an EV charging station at Karnal by Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL), the Delhi-Chandigarh highway became India’s first EV-friendly highway.

The highway is complete with a network of solar-powered EV charging stations, built under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid) and Electric Vehicles in India (FAME) scheme, according to the company’s press release.

The BHEL’s electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Karnal, Haryana, was inaugurated by Union Heavy Industries Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey on Thursday.

The company press release added that the charging station, located at the midpoint of the Delhi-Chandigarh highway, will provide charging to all types of electric cars currently available in the country.

In addition to the EV charging stations, each rooftop solar array is grid-connected, which will supply green and clean energy to the charging stations

According to the release, installing similar EV chargers at regular intervals of 25-30 kilometers on the highway would alleviate range anxiety and boost EV users’ confidence in intercity travel.
