A PPA was signed by PDD and SECI for a solar project in Leh, Ladakh

PDD will purchase power from the 50 MW solar project at Taru area in Leh with battery storage envisioned as part of the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP)-2015.


A power purchase agreement (PPA) for the purchase of 50 megawatts of DC solar power was signed by the Power Development Department (PDD) of Ladakh and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) on 9th of December 2021.

In the presence of Ravinder Kumar, Ladakh Administrative Secretary, the PPA was signed between Ghulam Ahmad Mir chief engineer, PDD Ladakh and Debajyoti Bordoloi, Senior Manager (Projects), SECI.

Under the PPA that power will be purchased from the 50 MW solar project at Taru area in Leh with battery storage envisioned as part of the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP)-2015. According to officials, PDD will buy the power generated by this project for Rs 2.22 per unit.

In his remarks on the occasion, Kumar said the project is extremely prestigious for Leh and will substantially improve the power situation in future while meeting the electricity needs of the people.

He added that the Memorandum of Understanding for this project was already signed between the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), the Leh Administration, and SECI on April 6, 2021.
