A 220 kV substation is commissioned by Godrej & Boyce in Karnataka

PIRE, Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing’s Power Infrastructure & Renewable Energy business unit has announced the commissioning of a 220kV grid substation in Karnataka

A 220/66/11kV grid substation was recently commissioned at Sira in the Tumakuru district of Karnataka state by the Power Infrastructure and Renewable Energy (PIRE) business arm of Godrej & Boyce Mfg Co Ltd.

Sira and its surrounding areas will be connected to the state-level grid through this substation via 220kV and 66kV transmission lines, providing access to reliable power with a transformation capacity of 200 MW.

The substation will not only give the necessary impetus to promote the industrial landscape in and around Sira, which is now in its infancy due to a lack of reliable power, according to the press release.

As the substation provides electricity to emerging industrial establishments and data centres in the area, the issue of reliable power will be resolved. The project will facilitate the expansion of the industrial landscape in the future and provide a host of growth opportunities, the release further observed.

On the commissioning of substations, Raghavendra Mirji, Senior VP & Head – PIRE business unit, Godrej Electricals & Electronics, commented, “We are thrilled to commission substations with high power capacity in Sira. This will not only resolve the problem of reliable power in Sira but also pave way for industries to perform better due to better accessibility to an efficient power supply in the region.”

“We are looking forward to expanding our service to smaller towns in the state to improve the quality of the power transmission in the future”, Mirji further added.

In India, Godrej Electricals & Electronics, a business of Godrej & Boyce, has successfully commissioned several EHV substation projects and up to 400kV transmission lines across states. Earlier this year, the company won a contract worth over INR 100 crore, to construct Mumbai city’s first 400kV gas insulated switchgear (GIS) substation in Vikhroli, along with a 400kV bay extension in Kharghar.
