A 180-MW wind project has been awarded to Sembcorp Industries in India

As a leading provider of sustainable solutions, Sembcorp has continued to expand its renewable energy offering globally. In a recent wind auction in India, Sembcorp Industries wholly owned subsidiary Green Infra Wind Energy had secured a wind energy project of 180 megawatts (MW). 

According to a release from Singapore-based Sembcorp Industries, its Indian subsidiary won a 180-megawatt (MW) wind power project in the 11th wind power auction held recently in India. 

Sembcorp’s renewable energy subsidiary Green Infra Wind Energy Ltd has received the letter of award from Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). 

Karnataka is proposed as the location for the project. After the project is completed, SECI will purchase the power generated by the plant under a long-term 25-year power purchase agreement. 

Commenting on the occasion, Vipul Tuli, Chief Executive of Sembcorp Industries South Asia region stated that the 180-MW win of the SECI wind project demonstrates our competitiveness and capability in renewable energy.  

Additionally, he added, winning this wind project is in line with our long-term commitment to India’s energy transition as well as our target of growing our renewable portfolio.

The first three SECI bids that Sembcorp won were completed in 2020 with 800 MW of wind energy. Following the awarding of the 180 MW wind power project, Sembcorp’s total installed and under construction renewable energy capacity in India now exceeds 2.3 gigawatts (GW). 

As a result of this deal, Sembcorp Industries, the Singapore-based parent company of Sembcorp India, now has more than 3.5 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy in operation or under development across Singapore, China, India, Vietnam, and the UK.
