BP acquires EV charging company AMPLY to push its green energy plans
By 2030, BP plans to double earnings from its convenience and mobility businesses as well as expand its global network of EV charging stations by over six times.
A major oil and gas company BP Plc says it has acquired AMPLY Power, a provider of electric vehicle charging systems in the U.S., for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition is part of efforts to reduce emissions and increase clean energy development.
According to BP, by 2030 it aims to double its revenue from its global convenience and mobility businesses and to grow its global EV charging points by more than six-fold to 70,000 in the same period.
Incorporated in 2018, AMPLY Power, a California-based company provides services to companies engaged in the fleet operating business of trucks, buses, vans, and light-duty vehicles.
BP wants to accelerate electrification in fast-growing fleet segments, which will lower emissions from the transportation sector – the United States’ largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions,” said Richard Bartlett, BP’s senior vice president for future mobility and solutions business.
The agreement stipulates that AMPLY Power will remain an independent company within BP’s global portfolio of businesses.
The company said last week that it plans to build a large-scale green hydrogen production plant in northeast England. The plant will use wind, water and solar power to assist Britain in phasing out its dependence on fossil fuels.
