Andhra Pradesh will invite various national and international agencies to collaborate with its energy efficiency movement, including the International Energy Agency, United States Agency for International Development, and Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development.
Last year, Adityanath Das, the chief secretary, stated that the state government made available Rs 1,100 crore in financial assistance to MSMEs as part of a restart package. The chief secretary has instructed the energy department to submit a report on department-specific initiatives and the establishment and operation of energy conservation cells at the next executive committee meeting.
Adityanath Das stated that Andhra Pradesh is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It will assist the government of India in mitigating the ill effects of climate change through both short-term and long-term strategies that involve all stakeholders.
Through energy efficiency and renewable energy sources, the state aims to become a role model in the country, he added further.
As per the Bureau of Energy Efficiency estimates that Andhra Pradesh has a 25% energy efficiency potential, or 16,875 million units out of a total annual energy demand of 67,500 MU.
Meanwhile, the AP State Energy Conservation Mission estimates that the state has so far been able to conserve 2,932 MU of energy per year valued at 2,014 crores through various state government schemes.
The chief secretary asked the energy department to produce a comprehensive roadmap for achieving the target of further energy savings of 14,000 MU.
The chief secretary underscored the need for continuing cost-effective measures in the power sector by taking advantage of innovative and global technologies by referring to Covid-19 and its impact as well as the upcoming executive committee meeting of AP State Energy Conservation Mission.
