Amp Energy India has announced the commissioning of a 7.8 MW solar power plant for the Metro Rail Project in Hyderabad. The project is one of India’s largest behind-the-meter solar projects.
The company further informed that the project is a public-private partnership between Mumbai-based infrastructure firm Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and the state government of Telangana.
According to the statement released by AMP Energy, the power plant is to supply power to L&T in Hyderabad, providing solar power to its 24 stations and two depots in the city for its metro project
The solar project would generate 11,300 MWh of green energy in a year, which is equivalent to reduce about 8,000 metric tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
K V B Reddy, managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO), L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) said, “This initiative will help us to cut our carbon footprint and use green energy to partially strengthen our operations.”
According to the firm, the Hyderabad Metro Rail project will be meeting around 15 percent of its total electricity consumption through solar power supplied by this project of Amp Energy.
Pinaki Bhattacharyya, MD and CEO of Amp Energy India, said, “We believe that such projects provide the right momentum for Indian public transport, to switch toward sustainable energy sources and help to meet India’s climate goals.
The solar plant became fully operational on December 26, 2020.
