THDCIL and NEEPCO invited to bid on solar and wind projects by R K Singh

By the end of Q3 (December 2021), CPSUs were instructed by the minister to increase their capital expenditures by 90 percent.


Tehri Hydro Development Corporation Ltd (THDCIL) and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) have been asked to bid for solar and wind projects by Power Minister R K Singh.

In an official statement, the power ministry said the power and new & renewable energy minister met with the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation Limited (THDCIL) and the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) to review the projects.

Both CPSUs have been asked to bid on solar and wind projects. CPSUs was further instructed by the minister to increase their capital expenditures and to spend 90 percent of their capex by the end of Q3 (December 2021).

In his remarks, Singh highlighted the initiatives that THDCL has taken to install Carbon Capture Technology in the Khurja Super Thermal Power Project (2 X 660 MW).

Additionally, he recognized the initiative of THDCIL to diversify into the ‘Green Hydrogen’ field under the National Green Hydrogen Mission as well as to develop an 800 MW Green Hydrogen production and storage project on the commercial scale in Chitrakot District, Uttar Pradesh.

Furthermore, THDCIL was asked to create two new divisions within its company, one for the development of thermal power plants and another for developing mines.

NEEPCO’s high manpower/megawatt strength was a major concern, and the minister urged the  CPSUs to bring it in line with the Central Electricity Authority’s norms.

NEEPCO’s president directed the company to expand its renewable energy operations across the country.
