Modhera may be declared as India’s first fully solar-powered village by PM Modi
Narendra Modi is expected to visit Modhera village in Gujarat on Sep 5 and declare it the nation’s first fully solar-powered village.
On September 5, Narendra Modi is expected to visit Modhera village, a religious destination known for its Sun Temple, and declare it the nation’s first fully solar-powered village. The Modhera village and Sun Temple are among the protected archaeological sites of India.
PM had earlier asked the state government to take up the project of turning the village housing the Sun Temple into India’s first fully solar-powered village.
The village will be provided with 24×7 power through a 6MW solar plant that has been built by the state government of Gujarat.
Around INR 69 crore has been spent on the project by the state. The government allocated 12 hectares of land for the plant, which is located 3 kilometers from the village.
For the storage of solar power generated by the 6MW solar power plant, a Battery Energy Storage System will be connected. Modhera village will receive solar power at night from this BESS.
Aside from the 6MW plant, village homes will also generate electricity from their rooftops.
On September 5, during his one-day visit to Gandhinagar, the PM is also expected to launch a few education department projects, such as the school of excellence project.
