Mizoram enters India’s solar map with its first 2 MW solar plant
With the commissioning of the state’s first two MW solar power plant, Mizoram gained a position on India’s solar power map.
Mizoram marked its position in the solar power map of India with the commission of a 2MW solar power plant. This is the state’s first solar power plant built at the cost of INR 14 crore at Tlungve in Aizawl District.
The state-funded solar power plant spreads over 5 acres and comprises 5340 solar panels. The construction of the plant was started in August 2018. The plant was inaugurated by Mizoram Power Minister R. Lalzirliana.
The Minister stated in his speech at the inauguration that Mizoram joined the country’s Solar Map with the commissioning of its 2 MW solar power plants, which was a proud moment for the state.
He also stated that, in addition to solar energy, the state’s hydro potential should also be harnessed to produce more power, so as to turn the government’s vision of self-sufficiency in power and energy into a reality.
Deputy Chairman and local MLA Lalrinwama appreciated the efforts of the local community who provided the land for the solar power plant that helped smoothing the process of its construction.
The plant is expected to generate 3 million units per year. Officials from the Power Department also informed about another 20 MW solar power plant which is currently under construction at Vankal in Khawzawl district of southern Mizoram.
