India targeting on renewable energy sources to meet the power demand of Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep islands: RK Singh
India’s Union Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister R K Singh, recently stated that the government is targeting on renewable energy sources to meet the power demand of Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep islands.
Singh was addressing delegates at “Know India Programme” – a flagship programme of Ministry of External Affairs since last 15 years – for engagement with Indian origin youth to enhance their awareness about India’s art and culture. The programme was attended by a number of delegates from countries, including Mauritius, Fiji, Suriname, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago and South Africa.
The minister stated that India chooses the path to sustainable growth and for our generations to come, we want to leave a green planet. That is why our focus is on renewable energy. We are aiming for 100 per cent renewable energy in Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep and India is ready to share expertise among other small island nations.
During the course of interaction, the power and renewable energy ministries educated the delegates about India’s commitment to increasing its share of non-fossil fuel based electric power generation up to 40 per cent by 2030. He further informed the delegates that India has already achieved over 33 per cent share of non-fossil fuels based electricity installed capacity base and is likely to achieve this target much ahead of the deadline.
He also explained the unique features of the India Power system to the delegates and talked about the emotional bond that Indian diaspora shares with the country of their forefathers and wished the delegates for a better future.
